Change of direction in my project:

I have decided to change what I am doing in my project. I realised that its not the designing and creating of clothes I want to do but the buying and merchandising and styling of fashion, making two outfits would be very time consuming and wouldn't help me learn much more about the fashion industry.

Looking into how I am going to create the outfits

My main priority at the moment is me starting to think about the 90's section of the project. I need to find out where I am going to be able to get hold of items for me to be able to create one of the outfits. I have the idea of going into charity shops and looking, but I have the idea for what I am looking for in my head and if I wont be able to find it there I will have to search the Internet. I am going to make sketch on the design ideas I have for the 90's outfit, then I'm going to the do the same for the noughties one.

Learning about technology

As part of our extended project we need to learn about a new tecnology and use it. I have decided that my final piece of my project will be a photoshoot. The next part of my project will be creating two outfits, one from the 90's and one from the 00's. Once I have done this I will learn how to use a professional camera, then I will use photoshop and Picasa. Now I need to start thiniking about where I will be borrowing the camera from and who I will teach me how to use it and edit the pictures after.

I am coming to the end of my research and I think I now have a clear idea of what the 90's and 00's fashion trends were about.

The 90's was all about very bright clothing, shapes of the clothes were very important- and patterns. Cropped tops were popular as so were mini skirts. The clothes were very creative and although certain trends were in fashion everyone seemed to look different this is what i love about the 90's, everyone had their own style of the certain styles.

Whereas you can see the 90's was more about what the trends were at the time. Neutral colours were popular, so was black. Body con came back into fashion contrasted with baggy cardigans.


This research will help be learn about the way fashion has evolved throughout the last 20 years. I will then use what I have learnt to create my 90's and 00's outfits.

After speaking with my teacher I think it will be a good idea to email some new up and coming designers. I think this will be a good idea to get other peoples opinions and see what drew them into fashion, who their favourite designers are and who inspires them.

Over christmas I been collecting pictures and cut outs from magazines to use for my collages. Once I have collected enough cut outs I will start to put the collages together.

Today I going to keep researching British Designers and see if I can fnid out as much as I can about them.

I need to start thinking about who I am going to borrow a professional camera from and how I am going to learn to use it.

I am also going to start looking out for 90's and 00's clothes now, for my two models to wear in the fashion shoot.

As part of my research I have decided to add on to my initial mind map which I started the project with to help me ideas.

• I will use mind map to help me organise my research and thoughts and ideas during the project.
• I have also decided that I'm going to make collage boards, one for the 90's trends and the other for the 00's trends. This will help me visually put my ideas and findings done from my research.
• The boards will also be useful when I present my extended project because it will give the audience something to look at and give them an idea of what I found out in my research.

16th December 2010

I've been thinking about what my outcome of this project is going to be. I've decide that its going to be a photoshoot, i'm going to use two models which will be two of my friends.

I going to create two outfits myself using the knowlegde I have learnt from my research, one being a typical 90's outfit and the other a 00's outfit. 

So for now in my project, i'm going to carry on researching into the two decades and finding out what the trends were and what weren't.

Today I have started to research to look for pictures showing 90's and 00's fashion trends.
I have found that there is a big difference between the two decades trends, the 00's being much more designer related and the 90's having simpler styled clothes but with bright and creative patterns and fabrics.

I have started to collect pictures and save then in a folder so I can use them in my powerpoint presentation. After looking through the pictures I am realising that there is a huge difference between the two decades and a bigger one than I thought. In general the fabrics and patterns of the 00's were alot plainer than the 90's, alot more black, grey and white is used. In the 90's the cropped top was a big fashion trend which I am sure peolpe following fashion wouldnt have been seen dead in, in the 00's.

I am going to start to write up my research in my powerpoint but also carrying on looking for pictures and evidence of trends there was in the past two decades so I can start to compare them and work out why they changed and what made them change.

My Research

Firstly I attended a fashion show on the 14th of February 2010. This was a good way to start my project, and help me get into the right mind set of the fashion world. I will use the internet for pictures and other information about the past 20 years and how the fashions have changed, I will also use books to help me.

      

I'm also going to use my research of the 90's style of fashion and compare it with the 00's fashion and have a photo shoot, this will show my understanding of technology and how the fashions changed, I will need to learn and be taught about using a professional still camera and this will all be documented in my project.

      

 

Why I chose this topic:

I've always been interested in fashion, and especially the business side of fashion, this is why I have chosen to look at in my extended project; the way it has changed in the last 20 years and why. I think choosing this title for my extended project will benefit me if I decide to peruse a career in fashion. This will also link in with my studies of the ICT Diploma and will allow me to develop my digital editing and manipulation skills using different software.

 

My final proposed action:

To produce a written report on Power Point on how fashion has changed over the last 20 years, with features of the Fashion show I attended and other information I can get a hold of. Also a fashion shoot using two friends to model two outfits, one from the 90’s and the other from the 00’s which I will put together.

Discussion

After a discussion with my teacher he gave me advice to add in research from the internet and books into British designers, going to fashion shows and writing to designers. He also said I should change my title of the extended project into a question, so at the end of my presentation I can use my research to conclude with a conclusion based on my research.

 

He also said my initial project was a bit too vague so I have decided to just focus on only a few specific  topics within the heading, for this reason I have decided to look into British designers. I was advised to present my project in a report so I have decided to use Power Point, having my final piece of the project to be a photo shoot showing the difference in fashion from the 90's to the 00's. Another idea he gave was that I should add some video into my project, so I may produce a mini fashion show, showing the different trends of the 90's and the 00's.

       

On 14th of February 2010, I am attended a London fashion show, which helped me research into the fashion world. In my project I am going to add a section on my learning to use a professional camera and I may add another section on video editing for the little bit of filming I may do for the project.
